2010: Started 10 games behind the plate, 16 more at designated hitter and played in 41 total games in his first season with the Cardinals. He hit .303 overall with two home runs and 15 RBI. Threw out six of 13 base runners defensively. Hit a game-winning three-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning of the Cardinals' 6-3 comeback win at Notre Dame on May 20. The home run at UND was his second of the season. Finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored once in May 15 win over St. John's. Connected for a two-run double in the 14th inning of the Cards' May 11 loss at Vanderbilt. Had two hits and a walk as the Cards' DH in the May 9 win at Georgetown. Went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored in May 1 win over Rutgers. Had a pair of hits in Cardinals' April 21 win over Western Kentucky. Finished 2-for-5 with an RBI in game two of Cards' April 17 doubleheader sweep at WVU. Hit first career home run and scored twice overall in April 14 win at No. 19 WKU. Went 2-for-4, including a leadoff single to start the Cardinals' four-run ninth-inning rally, in the April 11 9-7 comeback win at Pittsburgh. Finished with best performance of the season at the plate in April 3 win over Villanova going 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Had a hit and an RBI in Cards' win at Evansville on March 23. Went 2-for-3 in Cardinals' win over Xavier. Had the game-winning, two-run double down the left field line in the 12th inning of the Cardinals' March 12 win at Ole Miss. Picked up first career RBI with a run-scoring single in the March 9 win over Indiana. Was 1-for-2 against Le Moyne on March 7. Scored twice in Louisville's win over Michigan State at Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge. Earned first career hit and finished 2-for-4 overall with a run scored in his first career start behind the plate in Louisville's 8-7 comeback win over Bowling Green on Feb. 20.
Before U of L: Played two seasons for Scottsdale Community College where he earned Arizona Junior College All-Star honors and played for the JUCO All-Stars against Team USA. Finished with 60 hits, including 10 doubles and one home run, and 30 RBI in 2009 as Scottsdale finished second at the Junior College World Series. Hit .346 with 13 doubles for Scottsdale in 2008.
High School: Prior to enrolling at Scottsdale, he played three seasons for the Mountain Pointe High School Pride in Arizona under head coach Brandon Buck. As a prep senior, he earned All-Region honors after hitting .415 with five home runs and 16 doubles and scoring 40 runs.
Personal: Born Jack Joseph Ethel on May 22, 1989, in Broken Arrow, Okla. Son of Doug and Cindy Ethel. Has one brother, Bobby, who played baseball for the University of San Francisco. Majoring in sport administration with a minor in business at U of L. Biggest thrill in sports was earning a runner-up finish in the 2009 Junior College World Series with Scottsdale Community College. People with the greatest influence on his athletic career are his parents. Favorite TV show is Family Guy. Favorite food is his mom's pasta.
