NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - NSCAA High School All-American and Gatorade and IHSCA Indiana Player of the Year Ashley Auld will not have to go far to begin her freshman season with the University of Louisville women's soccer team.
The speedy senior forward from Noblesville, Indiana will travel down the road about 140 miles to The Ville with her impressive resume to embark on her freshman season at UofL this fall.
There were other options for Auld, who scored 44 goals and added 28 assists in her four seasons of high school soccer. Indiana, Valparaiso, Indiana State, and Butler were also interested, but Louisville was the place.
"Growing up, I had never wanted to go too far from home, but I wanted to be far enough away that I didn't have to live at home. So, when I started looking, the University of Louisville was one of my top picks because it was 2 hours away and every time I passed it going to my grandparents house I wanted to go that much more," Auld said.
She capped her prep career with 16 goals and 11 assists her senior year. Auld was selected All-District three times, Academic All-State twice and 2007 All-North Player of the Year, Indy Star Super Team Player of the Year and First Team All-State.
She also competed for the FC Pride Twisters for eight seasons and Carmel United Crusaders for two seasons on the club level.
Noblesville Head Coach Mike Brady had some high praise for his former player.
"At a school fortunate enough to produce a lot of great players, Ashley Auld is right there among the Mount Rushmore of the best."
Opponents also understood how talented she is, like Carmel Head Coach Frank Dixon.
"We didn't do much game planning for opposing players but with Ashley Auld, you always had to track her, because if you didn't she would burn you. She is one of the few in the area where you always had to know where she was.""
Auld is planning to major in psychology at UofL and would like to become a forensic psychologist after college.
"I am looking forward to meeting new people and enjoying my experience as a college athlete in a great environment."
Cardinal Head Coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is excited about what Auld has to offer to her team when she arrives in Louisville.
"We are thrilled to add a player of Ashley's ability to our roster this fall. She is a proven goal scorer, she has a great physical presence and she is very dangerous off of set pieces. She will be a tremendous complement to our returning group of talented forwards and she will certainly help us to be more dynamic and dangerous in the final third."
Auld cheers for the Colts and Manchester United, and Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach are among her favorite athletes. Hamm and the Fab Five are the biggest influence on her athletic career.
She likes to watch CSI, ER, Law and Order SVU and House on TV and National Treasure and Wedding Crashers are her favorite movies.
It may be a short journey from home to UofL, but Auld is hopeful that is a long successful ride.
