PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Louisville goalkeeper Joanna Haig has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week after helping the Cardinal women's soccer team to a pair of shutouts last week.
The senior from Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota played all 217 minutes in net without allowing a goal. On Friday, Haig made six stops against Cincinnati in a 1-0 victory in double overtime on the road in the BIG EAST opener.
In Sunday's match against rival Kentucky, Haig had three saves in a double overtime match that ended in a scoreless tie.
Haig now has five shutouts in eight matches this season, already tied for fourth on the U of L single season list. Combined with her school record-tying eight shutouts last season, her 13th career shutouts are second in school history. Her 0.49 goals against average is the top total in school history.
This marks the second time in her career that Haig has earned the weekly honor from the BIG EAST picking it up on October 31 last season. She has been a member of the weekly honor roll twice this season.
Louisville (6-1-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST), ranked 25th in the nation, will host defending national runner-up and 27th-ranked Notre Dame Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park. The match will be broadcast on WHAS-TV on a tape delayed basis.
