
Haig and Gjini Earn All-Region Honors

MISSION, Kansas - University of Louisville women's soccer goalkeeper Joanna Haig and midfielder Monique Gjini have been named to the NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division I All-Great Lakes Region Second Team.
During the 2007 season, Haig established school records for single season minutes (2,110), goals against average (0.47) and shutouts (12), as well as career GAA (0.48) and shutouts (20). She finished the season third in the nation in save% (0.893) and fifth in GAA.
Haig, a senior from Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, did not leave the field during her senior season, posting a 13-6-2 record in net, as the Cardinals tied a school record for wins and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season. She was selected to the All BIG EAST second team and was a ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® women's soccer First Team member..
She was also one of 10 finalists for the Inaugural Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in the Women's Soccer division. The award is presented in eight NCAA Division I sports to a senior student-athlete who has outstanding attributes in four areas: the classroom, community, character and competition.
Gjini, also a senior from Edmonton, Alberta, was named to the All BIG EAST First Team.
She was third on the team in goals (4) and points (11) this season, helping the Cardinals to their second ever birth into a conference tournament semifinal. Earlier in the season Gjini was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the week after being named Offensive MVP of the Boilermaker Challenge Cup.
Gjini set a school record for career assists with 20, stands third in career points (66) and second in shots (224). She played in more games than anyone in Cardinal history (80), and set a new career standard in starts (79).
