Women's Soccer Set to Host BIG EAST Quarterfinal Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team will host Marquette on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET in a BIG EAST quarterfinal match at Cardinal Park.
The Cardinals (12-4-2, 7-3-1 BIG EAST) finished second in the National Division, earning a first round bye and home field advantage as they host the Golden Eagles (12-3-4, 5-3-3 BIG EAST), the number three seed out of the American Division.
Tickets for the match are $7 for adults, $3 for children ages 3 to 12, $4 for seniors and all BIG EAST students receive free admission with a valid student I.D.
Louisville hosts the Eagles for the second time this season, with the first meeting resulting in a dramatic 2-2 tie in which UofL came back from a 2-0 second half deficit, tying the game with 11 seconds remaining on October 19. The teams previously met in a BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinal in Milwaukee on October 30, 2005, a 2-1 win for the Eagles.
A stingy defense has lead the way for the Cardinals this season, under Head Coach Karen Ferguson, the winningest coach in school history compiling 65 wins in her seven plus seasons. The Cardinals rank in the top 10 in three national categories; GAA(5th - 0.444), shutout % (10th) and save % (5th).
Senior goalkeeper Joanna Haig has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week twice this season and now has a school record 19 shutouts in 33 career starts. Her 11 shutouts this season is also a Cardinal standard. Haig is 7th in GAA (0.44) and 5th in save %(.898) nationally, leading the BIG EAST in both categories.
In setting up Caitlin Rehder's overtime game winner on the final day of the regular season at Georgetown, senior Monique Gjini surpassed Kim Marshall`s (`91-94) school record for career assists, notching her 20th. Gjini, a preseason All-BIG EAST selection, ranks third in career points (66) and shots (220), second in school history in starts (76) and is tied for the school record in games played with 77.
Junior Shannon Smyth leads the team in goals (6), assists (3) and points (15). Her five game winning goals lead the BIG EAST. She has scored twice in double overtime and once in overtime, lifting the Cards to a 4-1-2 record in overtime matches. Freshman Kelsey Hunyadi has five goals and three assists in 15 matches, while Gjini is third on the team in scoring with four goals and three assists.
The Golden Eagles did not pick up their first loss of the season until they travelled to #21 UConn on 9/30, going 9-1-0 to open the season, including seven straight wins to start the slate. During the 10-game stretch, they only gave up one goal, while they have allowed seven goals in their last four, including a 2-2 tie to the Cards on 10/10/19. Ashley Bares has eight goals and 16 points to lead UM, but Allison Mallams has netted five goals in just eight games of action. Katie Kelley's nine assists is the top total on the team and third in the BIG EAST. GK Laura Boyer has nine shutouts and an 0.83 GAA.
The winner advances to the BIG EAST Semifinals in Morgantown, West Virginia, November 9 at Dick Dlesk Stadium. The final will be held November 11 with the winner receiving an automatic bid into the 2007 NCAA Tournament. All three matches in Morgantown will be televised live on CSTV.
