NEW York, N.Y. - University of Louisville goalkeeper Joanna Haig has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's soccer First Team.
Haig holds a 3.968 gpa as a management major with a minor in sport administration. She made the AD Honor Roll, Dean's List, was a Red and Black Scholar, Dean's Scholar and a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in 2006.
"Joanna has not only excelled on the soccer field but in the classroom as well," noted Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"She takes tremendous pride in the classroom and it is evidenced by her selection to this very prestigious team."
On the field, the senior from Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota became the third All-American in school history after establishing school records in shutouts(8) and goals against average (0.49) last season. This season she has already set new single season and career records for shutouts with 11 and 19 respectively, and is on pace to break her single season GAA mark while setting a new career record.
She has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week twice this season and made the honor roll three times. Haig ranks fifth in the nation in save %(.898) and seventh in GAA (0.44), leading the Cardinals to a second place finish in the National Division. She has seven shutouts in 11 conference matches, allowing just five goals for an 0.38 GAA.
Haig has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the Inaugural Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in the Women's Soccer division, where fans can vote on-line to help determine the winner.
As an All-District First Team selection, Haig is now one of eight candidates at GK for Academic All-America Status, to be awarded November 20.
The Cardinals have now had seven members of the Academic All-District teams in the last four seasons, with senior back Amy Seng becoming the first Academic First Team All-American last season for the Cardinals.
Louisville (12-4-2, 7-3-1 BIG EAST) will host Marquette Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park in a BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinal match. The winner will advance to the semifinals the following Friday in Morgantown, West Virginia.
