PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Louisville goalkeeper Joanna Haig has been named BIG EAST Goalkeper of the Week, and freshman Kelsey Hunyadi earned BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, after the Cards picked up a pair of conference wins over the weekend.
Haig, a senior from Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, made six saves on her way to a pair of shutouts, establishing new single season and career records at UofL with nine and 17 respectively.
A transfer last season from Iowa State, Haig has managed to establish the career record in just 29 career starts. Her nine shutouts in 2007 have come in 14 starts.
Haig has a goals against average of 0.41 for the season, allowing just six goals all year, as the Cards are 10-3-1 on the year. In posting a 5-2-0 BIG EAST record, Haig has allowed just two goals for a 0.27 GAA.
She ranks seventh in the nation in GAA and sixth in save percentage (.905).
It marks the second time Haig has been honored this season(9/24) by the BIG EAST. She has been a member of the honor roll three times.
Hunyadi, a forward who was honored as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on September 10, scored a goal and added an assist on the week.
In a 3-0 win over Rutgers in front of a national TV audience on Fox Soccer on Thursday, Hunyadi netted her fourth goal of the season to put the Cards up 2-0.
On Sunday against Seton Hall with under two minutes remaining in double overtime, Hunyadi flicked a throw-in right onto the foot of teammate Shannon Smyth for the game winner.
The Cardinals host Marquette Friday at 7:00 p.m. and will close out the home portion of the regular season with Senior Day Sunday against USF at 12:00 p.m. at Cardinal Park.
