LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team, off to its best start in school history at 4-0-1, will make its national television debut Wednesday night on FOX Soccer Channel when they host rival Cincinnati at 8:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park in the BIG EAST opener for both teams.
The game coincides with the highest regional ranking in school history, as the Cardinals moved up to 3rd in the Soccer Buzz poll and 4th in the NSCAA poll in the Great Lakes Region. U of L is receiving votes in both national polls this week.
The Cardinals defeated Xavier 5-0 on Sunday, the third shutout of the season for the Cards.
Senior Jamie Craft (2g, 4a) and junior Monique Gjini (3g, 2a) are tied for the team lead in points with eight apiece. Freshman Lindsey Fox and Gjini each have three goals to pace the Cardinal offense.
Craft has equalled her season best with a team-high four assists already this season, giving her 13 in her career - tied for fourth in school history.
Louisville has outscored opponents 12-2, while the defense has posted a 0.37 GAA.
The Bearcats are 3-2-1 overall and lead by four different players who each have a goal. The UC defense has held their opponents scoreless three times this season, but have scored just four goals in six matches. Both teams have defeated Miami and Kentucky, while Cincinnati lost in overtime to Xavier earlier this season.
Louisville has won the past three meetings against UC, all by a 1-0 margin.
The Fox Soccer Channel is available to Louisville INSIGHT digital cable subscribers on channel 105. Steve Bell will be handling play-by-play duties on Wednesday.
The NSCAA National Poll has Notre Dame, a team the Cardinals will face on the road September 24, as the top team in the country while West Virginia, a team U of L beat 4-2 in an exhibition match during the preseason, is ranked seventh.
A tape-delayed broadcast of Louisville's Sunday win over Xavier will play on September 12 at 8:00 p.m. on WYCS and September 13 at 2:35 a.m. on WHAS-TV in Louisville. Sean Moth and former Cardinal All-Conference performer Gina Lower provide commentary.
All U of L home games can be followed on the internet via gametracker free of charge.
