
Lower Named Ed Kallay Winner

LOUISVILLE, Ky - Gina Lower, a senior defender on the University of Louisville women's soccer team, has earned the Ed Kallay Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a senior student athlete at U of L. The University of Louisville Athletic Department honored all 550 of its athletes and spirit groups at the annual Spring Sport Banquet Monday evening at the Galt House East.
Lower has graduated last fall with a 3.76 gpa in accounting, is already employed and is pursuing a CPA licence. She was named the Uof L Accounting School of Business outstanding graduating senior.
She served at U of L as the SAAC President and won the Brakemeir Award in 2005. Lower earned COSIDA Academic All-District first team and All BIG EAST Third Team this past season.
Lower was also asked to address the crowd as one of two keynote speakers.
The athletic department's community service efforts were recognized with the three CardsCARE Awards. The field hockey team amassed the most hours of community service. Swimmers Stephanie Wyatt and Travis Gray logged the most hours of community service individually.

The most outstanding freshman athletes received recognition for their outstanding contribution to their respective teams during their initial season as a Cardinal.

The Sherrill Brakmeier/Clark Wood Awards are presented to student-athletes who have at least a 3.0 gpa and exemplify outstanding qualities of leadership, dedication to the community, service and scholarship as well as commitment and loyalty to the University of Louisville.

Athletes that have provided inspirational leadership qualities for their teams are eligible for the Anthem Leadership Award.

The Ed Kallay award is the highest honor presented to U of L seniors and is awarded to the student-athlete who has at least a 2.5 gpa, exemplifies the characteristics of leadership, demonstrates commitment to the community and dedication to excellence and exuberance in their sport.

The keynote speakers were two senior athletes who reflected on their careers as Cardinals, imparting lessons and wisdom they gained being a part of the University of Louisville athletic family.
