HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team had three of its members earn All-BIG EAST honors Thursday night at the annual awards banquet. Jamie Craft was selected to the first team, Monique Gjini made the second-team honors and Joanna Haig earned honorable mention.
Craft, a senior forward from Owings, Maryland, paced the team with nine goals, 24 points and five game winners. She was second on the team in assists with six, and scored six of her goals in conference play.
It was the second consecutive year Craft made First Team All BIG EAST. As a sophomore she earned First Team All- Conference USA, and in winning Freshman of the Year in 2003, was Third-Team All-C-USA. She is the only player in Cardinal history to be named to an All-Conference team all four years and first team three times.
She is second in school history in goals (42) and points (99) and third in assists (15).
Gjini, who was named to the BIG EAST Third Team as a sophomore last season, had five goals and a team-leading seven assists, placing her second in school history in single season assists. Her 17 points was second on the Cards this season.
The junior midfielder from Edmonton is second on the career list at U of L with 17 assists.
Haig has seven shutouts this season, second on the single season list at U of L, and her goals against average of 0.53 is the top number in school history.
Five of her shutouts have been in league play. She has allowed only four goals in her last 11 games and only two teams have scored against her in her last seven.
The junior from Inner Grove Heights, Minnesota was recently named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week after logging a pair of shutouts in BIG EAST Championship play.
Louisville is 13-4-2 overall and await the selection of the field of 64 that will compete in the NCAA Championship Tournament on November 6. If the Cards are granted an at-large bid, it would be the first trip to the NCAA tournament in U of L soccer history. The tournament begins at selected campus sites on November 10.
