LOUISVILLE, KY - Senior All-American outfielder Mark Jurich was 4 for 5 with two home runs and three RBI to lift the University of Louisville baseball team to a 6-4 win over Illinois State.
Cardinal freshman outfielder Isaiah Howes blasted his first career home run to right center, a three-run shot in the first inning after a single by Jurich and a walk to catcher Ron Braun to make it 3-0 Cards(3-2).
In the second, shortstop Nick Haley singled, second baseman Chris Cates moved him to second with a sacrifice and Jurich drilled a pitch over the fence in right-center for his second home run of the season and a 5-0 Cardinal(3-2) advantage.
An RBI triple by Redbird(1-1) third baseman Chris Shepherd put ISU on the board in the fourth, and an RBI fielder's choice and two-run single in the seventh cut the margin to 5-4 Cards.
With two out in the eighth, Jurich stepped to the plate and jacked his second home run of the afternoon to right, giving the Cards an insurance run.
Freshman Mike Lynn (1-0) notched the win in his first career start, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks in 6.2 innings. He struck out five and hit three batters.
Skylar Meade allowed two hits and a walk, while hitting a batter in two-thirds of an inning.
Sophomore Jon Harbridge shut the door, allowing a hit and fanning three over the final 1.2 innings to pick up his first career save.
