
Women's Soccer Team set to Open Season Sunday

LOUISVILLE, KY - The University of Louisville women's soccer team is set to open its 19th season this Sunday when they host the Butler Bulldogs at Cardinal Park. The game is set to start at 1:00 p.m., admission is free and the first 500 fans will receive a 2003 schedule magnet.
The Cards, which posted a 5-12-1 mark last season, will be without the services of All-Conference USA defender Gina Lower, who is out for another 3-5 weeks with a leg injury. Returning are 2002 All-Freshman team selection Sarah Core as well as leading scorer junior Lisa Martin, who notched five goals and four assists last fall.
Junior Meredith Miller, who already ranks fourth in goalkeeper minutes and GAA in U of L history returns in net.
Ten of the top 12 scorers from last season's squad are also back as well as the 14th ranked recruiting class in the region, according to SoccerBuzz Magazine.
The class also ranks 93rd out of 300 teams nationally and features the 2002 NSCAA/adidas National Junior College Women's Soccer Player of the Year Kim Jents who lead her team to the California Community College Championship and its first National Championship.
Jents finished her career with 67 goals, 35 assists and 170 points as Long Beach Community College's all-time leading goal and point scorer.
Joining Jents are speedy freshman Jamie Craft from Owings, Maryland, freshman Lindsay Scheer of Cincinnati, who scored a goal and an assist in the exhibition win over St. Xavier, and Louisville Manual's Liz Kinny.
Transfers Kim DeBolt, a sophomore from Walla Walla JC, sophomore Tara Weatherford from the University of Kentucky and junior Jen Romanello from Xavier are complemented by freshmen Heather Engel, Heidi Schomburg and Amy Seng to round out the class.
Butler opens its season Friday night at home against Ball State before making the trip south. The Bulldogs were 15-6 overall in 2002 with a 5-1 mark in the Horizon League.
Sunday will mark the fourth regular season match-up between the two teams, with the Cards looking for its first win of the series.
Louisville will next face Xavier on September 5th. The original time and location have changed, with kickoff now at 8:00 p.m. at Town and Country Sports and Entertainment Complex in Wilder, Kentucky at the intersection of Interstate 275 & Kentucky's AA Highway.
