LOUISVILLE, KY - The University of Louisville Cardinal baseball team has added four more players to its 2003 recruiting class.
Two pitchers and two infielders will join the seven players signed in November by the Cards and will be enrolled for classes this coming fall to compete on the 2004 team.
Below is a list of the four spring signees with a short commentary from U of L Head Coach Lelo Prado;
Justin Valdes
RHP
R/R
Dunedin HS/Tampa, FL.
Prado on Valdes:
" A 29th round draft pick by the New York Mets, Justin has all the makings of a great pitcher. We are expecting big things from him early on in his career. He has a plus fastball, and a good mix of off-speed pitches. We are very happy to have him in our program."
Chris Cates
Shortstop
R/R
Brandon HS/Brandon, FL.
Prado on Cates:
" Chris is the type of player we want here at U of L. A hard -nosed, tough player who gets after it every single day, and works to become the best player he can be. He's a good runner, has a great arm and is a very sound player offensively and defensively."
Logan Johnson
Infield
L/R
Owensboro HS/Owensboro, KY.
Prado on Johnson:
" We are very happy to have Logan in our program. A hard worker, who can play any infield position. He adds another LH bat to our lineup and he does a lot of little things the right way. Will be a good college player."
Clay Jenkins
RHP
R/R
Dorman HS/Moore, SC.
Prado on Jenkins:
" Clay is a big strong kid, with a great upside. He has a good arm, and will look to contribute early in his career."
