AMELIA, OHIO - An RBI double by Mark Jurich and a two-run single by Boomer Whiting highlighted a four-run rally in the ninth inning, lifting the University of Louisville Cardinals to a 7-5 win over Cincinnati Friday.
Louisville (20-11, 7-6) loaded the bases in the first inning and Jurich hit a sacrifice fly to center, giving the Cards a 1-0 lead.
The Bearcats (9-22, 3-10) plated three runs in the bottom of the inning on five singles for a 3-1 lead.
Another sac fly by Jurich in the third cut the lead to 3-2, but UC got the run back in the fourth on an RBI single by Jon DeLuca.
With one out in the fifth, Josh Bolen drilled his fifth home run of the season to right, to again cut the lead to 4-3, but DeLuca scored on an error in the sixth to make it 5-3.
In the ninth, J.T. LaFountain induced a one-out walk and Bolen laid down a perfect bunt single to put runners at first and second. Jurich stepped to the plate and roped a 1-1 pitch to left-center for an RBI double, cutting the lead to 5-4.
An intentional walk to pinch-hitter Greg Taylor loaded the bases, and catcher Luis Pardo induced a walk to drive in the tying run for the Cards.
Whiting then stepped to the plate with the bases still loaded and ripped a single back up the box, driving in the go-ahead runs, giving the Cards a 7-5 lead.
Carlos Fernandez (3-1) retired the side in order in the ninth to seal the win. He picked up the win, giving up one hit and striking out two in 2.0 innings.
