
Women's Soccer Hands Out Postseason Awards

The University of Louisville women's soccer team capped the 2001 season with a postseason awards banquet. The individual awards presented included, the Coaches Award, Cardinal Award and Team Most Valuable Player. Seniors Jerika Amos, Amber Jolley and Kristin Tapp were also honored for their hard work and dedication to the team over the past four years.
Freshman midfielder Jenny Starr was the first ever recipient of the Coaches Award. Starr, a Louisville native and Assumption High graduate started all 17 games this season. Starr was chosen by the coaches as the student-athlete who best demonstrated a commitment to academics and athletics through her dedication, hard work, perseverance and positive attitude.
The Cardinal Award is presented to the player that provides an exceptional representation of student-athlete life at the University of Louisville. This years winner was midfielder Noelle Hill. Hill, a junior from San Diego, California maintains a 3.0 grade point average, displays strong leadership abilities, and takes tremendous pride in representing the University of Louisville as well as the community.
The MVP for the 2001 season was freshmen defender Gina Lower. Lower, from Cincinnati, Ohio was chosen by her teammates. She played in all but 15 minutes this season leading a defense that cut goals against in half from the previous season. Lower was also named to the Conference-USA All-Freshmen team.
The Cardinal team was 4-13-0(2-8-0) on the season, posting the most victories in four years, and winning it's first Conference USA game since 1997.
