September 12, 2025 | Men's Soccer
The match will kick off at 6 p.m. ET
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 4/6 University of Louisville men's soccer team continues its unbeaten start to the 2025 season on Saturday night when the Cardinals host No. 20/RV Virginia at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ACCNX.
The Cardinals (5-0-0, 1-0-0 ACC) enter the matchup riding one of the most dominant defensive stretches in program history. Louisville has opened the year with five consecutive shutouts for the first time ever, including a 1-0 road victory at Ohio State in its last outing. Goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff and a back line anchored by Olayinka Ogunleye, Noah De Blasis, and Ryan Quintos have yet to concede a goal, holding opponents to just seven total shots on target through five matches.
Through five matches this season sophomore forward Chase Vazquez has three goals, two assists for eight points, putting him among Louisville's most productive attackers. In addition, he's taken nine shots (four on goal), with a shot-on-goal rate of .444. Vazquez also leads in game-winning goals for Louisville, having already recorded two game-winners this season.
The Cardinals opened the campaign with a 6-0 win over Southern Indiana, followed by victories at UAB and IU Indianapolis. Louisville also collected a marquee 1-0 result against top-ranked Stanford and followed it with the shutout at Ohio State to secure its first ACC points of the year.
Virginia (3-1-1, 0-0-1 ACC) enters the contest unbeaten in conference play following a 2-2 draw at No. 8 Virginia Tech. Senior Umberto Pela and freshman Nick Simmonds provided the scoring for the Cavaliers, who showed resilience with the tying goal in the final 12 minutes.
Saturday's match renews a balanced series between the two programs. Since 2013, Louisville and Virginia are even at 4-4-1, though the Cardinals have been strong at home, posting a 3-0-1 record against the Cavaliers inside Lynn Stadium.
