Louisville Falls to No. 24/RV Virginia in Tight Match

The Cardinals dropped their first match of the season, falling to 1-1 in ACC play.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 4/6 University of Louisville men's soccer team dropped its first match of the season on Saturday night, falling 1-0 to No. 24/RV Virginia at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The Cardinals (5-1-0, 1-1-0 ACC) controlled much of the match, holding a 53-47 advantage in possession and outshooting the Cavaliers 18-12, including 14 attempts in the second half. Louisville also earned six corner kicks to Virginia's three and forced Cavalier goalkeeper Casper Mols into five saves.
Despite the offensive pressure, Virginia (4-1-1, 1-0-1 ACC) broke through in the 73rd minute with the lone goal of the night. The Cardinals continued to push forward in the closing stages, creating multiple late chances from Bilal Camara, Michael Lee, and Jack Lewis, but were unable to find the equalizer.
Alex Svetanoff tallied two saves in goal for Louisville, while Camara led the attack with five shots, three on target. Lee added six shots, keeping the Cavalier back line under pressure throughout the contest.
Louisville will look to bounce back in its next outing as ACC play continues at Notre Dame on Friday, September 19. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. ET on ACCNX.
