No. 12 Cardinals Fall to Notre Dame on the Road

Despite six saves from Svetanoff, the Fighting Irish were able to score three goals on the evening.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 12 University of Louisville men's soccer team received its second loss of the season, falling to Notre Dame 2-0 at Alumni Stadium on Friday night.
The Cardinals (5-2-0, 1-2-0 ACC) went into halftime level after a tightly contested opening 45 minutes. Louisville generated five shots in the first period, including on-target efforts from Chase Vazquez and Jack Boring, but Irish goalkeeper Blake Kelly kept the match scoreless.
Notre Dame (4-1-2, 2-1-0 ACC) broke through midway through the second half, striking twice in just over a minute. Wyatt Borso found the back of the net in the 64th minute before Nolan Spicer doubled the advantage moments later. The Irish tacked on a late goal from Ren Sylvester in the 88th minute to seal the result.
Louisville created chances throughout the night, finishing with 14 shots and an 8-6 edge in corner kicks. Vazquez paced the attack with three attempts, while De Blasis and Brijbasi each added two. Kelly was tested often, recording six saves to keep the Cardinals off the board.
Goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff turned in six saves of his own, holding Notre Dame scoreless through the first 63 minutes before the Irish offense broke through.
Louisville returns home on Tuesday night to host rival Kentucky in the annual Battle of the Bluegrass. The game will kickoff at 7 p.m. ET on the ACC Network.
