Louisville’s win streak ends at six games
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Louisville women's soccer team (7-2-0, 0-1-0 ACC) saw its winning streak come to an end after the 2-0 defeat to No. 7 Florida State (5-0-1, 1-0-0 ACC) Thursday night at the Seminole Soccer Complex. Florida State scored from the spot in the first half and added a late goal in the second to end Louisville's winning streak at six games.
Both teams got settled in early on in the first half as most of the play came in the midfield. Florida State pushed forward but the Cardinals defense and Erynn Floyd were able to keep them off the scoreboard.
In the 24th minute, the Seminoles were granted a penalty kick after a foul in the box. Wrianna Hudson converted from the spot and the Seminoles were up 1-0.
In the 30th minute, the Cardinals got the ball in the box and into a dangerous area. Nicole Jodoin and Karsyn Cherry had back-to-back shots but they were both blocked and the opportunity was thwarted.
In the second half, Florida State looked to extend the lead but Louisville's defense was stout at turning away the Noles in the attacking third. The Cardinals turned away a number of chances that the Seminoles brought into the box.
In the 86th minute, the Cardinals looked to have the equalizer. Grace Maddox was able to get to a loose ball and after a touch, she sent a low-driven cross into the middle of the box. A couple of red jerseys were waiting and it was Taylor Morris to get her head on the ball and direct it towards goal. Todd was on the spot for Florida State to make the save and end the chance.
On the ensuing counterattack, Florida State got a goal from Yuna McCormack to put the game out of reach for the Cards.
Louisville will return to campus as another homestand awaits the Cardinals. They begin the three-game home stretch on Sunday, September 14th as the Cards host Virginia Tech at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium at 1 p.m. ET.
