Thursday's game will be a doubleheader with the women's team
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team will open the 2025 schedule on Thursday, August 21 at 5 p.m. when the Cardinals host Southern Indiana at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and admission is free to all fans.
The Cardinals return to Lynn Stadium following a 2024 campaign in which they finished 6-7-4. Louisville finished the season with a strong core intact and named TJ Kahoalii, Jack Lewis and Alex Svetanoff as team captains for 2025.
Svetanoff, who was named to the 2025 ACC Preseason Watch List, returns to the pitch after a season-ending injury pulled him from competition in 2024. The goalkeeper had a standout freshman year for the Cardinals, playing every minute in goal in 2023 and tallied 96 saves on the season.
Kahoalii and Lewis return for their second year after stepping up last season as freshmen. Kahoalii played in all 17 matches with 11 starts in 2024, logging 930 minutes. The midfielder finished with two goals, three assists and seven points on the season, scoring Louisville's only goal in the ACC Championship First Round loss to Clemson.
Lewis played in 17 matches, starting all but one in the midfield as a freshman. He led the Cardinals with 1,363 minutes on the pitch, finishing with a goal, three assists and five points on the year.
Louisville has reloaded its roster with 14 new additions ahead of the 2025 season, earning the No. 23 recruiting class in the nation, according to Top Drawer Soccer. The group features a strong mix of freshmen and transfers representing eight U.S. states, two Canadian provinces and South Africa. Positionally, the class includes six defenders, three midfielders, three forwards and two goalkeepers.
Southern Indiana enters its third season at the Division I level as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 2024 campaign highlighted by competitive nonconference play and will make their first-ever trip to Lynn Stadium.
Following Thursday's game, the Cards will travel to Birmingham, Alabama for a Monday (Aug. 25) evening match against UAB. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
