Cardinals Lose at Kentucky, Split Battle of the Bluegrass Series

Louisville lost 17-5 on Tuesday night in Lexington.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 19^th-ranked University of Louisville baseball team took a 17-5 loss Tuesday at Kentucky in the second Battle of the Bluegrass game of the spring.

Louisville (28-12) split the season series with Kentucky after winning the game in Louisville two weeks ago.

Kentucky (23-15) cashed in a one-out double in the opening inning with a sacrifice fly to take an early lead on Tuesday night. The Wildcats then plated four runs in the second, three of which scored on a ball lost in the sun.

The Cardinals got single runs home in the third and fourth innings, with Jake Munroe singling home Lucas Moore in the third and Eddie King Jr. leading off the fourth with his eighth home run of the year.

However, both Louisville runs were answered by Kentucky in the bottom of the frame and the Wildcats held a 10-2 lead through four.

The Cardinals kept battling at the plate, pushing three runs across in the fifth. King picked up his second RBI of the night with a sac fly before consecutive run-scoring singles from Tague Davis and Alex Alicea.

The Wildcats answered again though, responding with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Four different Cardinals had multiple hits on the night, with King driving in a pair.

TJ Schlageter (2-1) was hit with his first loss after giving up four runs in just 1.2 innings.

Louisville is back at Jim Patterson Stadium this weekend for a three-game series against No. 4 Florida State. The series gets underway on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
