Cardinals Rally Late to Win at Indiana
April 01, 2025 | Baseball
Louisville defeated Indiana 6-4 on Tuesday night.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The 14th-ranked University of Louisville baseball team scored five unanswered runs on its way to a 6-4 victory at Indiana on Tuesday night.
Louisville (21-7) stormed back from a 4-1 deficit with a run in the sixth and four more in the eighth to steal the win on the road.
The Cardinals were held without a hit through the first five innings, with Lucas Moore registering the first base knock with one out in the sixth. A passed ball moved Moore to second and Rose picked up his second RBI of the night with a single to right that made it a 4-2 game.
Two innings later, Louisville was staring at a two-run deficit with a runner on and two away. Garret Pike laid down a bunt single to put two runners on before a double steal resulted in a wild throw that allowed Moore to score and make it a one-run game.
Jake Munroe then hit a chopper to shortstop for what looked like the final out of the inning, but the throw to first was wide and Pike came home to tie the game. Eddie King Jr. followed with the biggest swing of the night, launching a two-run homer to left to give the Cardinals the lead.
Alex Gay turned in a perfect 1-2-3 bottom half of the eighth inning, but the Hoosiers wouldn't go quietly in the ninth.
The leadoff man reached on an error and the Cardinals issued a pair of walks while recording the first two outs. Wyatt Danilowicz buckled down though, getting a strikeout with the bases loaded to nail down his second save.
TJ Schlageter turned in a strong effort in his second career start. The southpaw retired eight of the nine batters he faced before exiting with two outs in the third. Casen Murphy was the first out of the bullpen and got a strikeout to keep the Hoosiers off the board.
Indiana (15-14) broke through in the fourth, pushing four runs across on just three hits.
Colton Hartman, Jack Brown, Justin West, Gay, Brennyn Cutts and Danilowicz combined to pitch the last 5.1 innings without allowing a run. West (1-1) earned his first victory of the season with a scoreless frame.
Louisville is back at home this weekend for a three-game series against Boston College. The series is scheduled to begin on Friday at 6 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium.
