Louisville defeated UIC in the series opener on Friday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With more than 2,000 kids in the stands, the University of Louisville baseball team turned in a 10-2 victory over UIC on Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Patrick Forbes (2-0) allowed just one run on two hits over a career-best six innings for his second win of the season. The right-hander struck out nine, extending his streak to four straight starts with at least nine to begin 2025.
Louisville (10-2) scored in each of the first five innings on Friday.
Zion Rose drove in Lucas Moore with a groundout to start the scoring in the first and Tague Davis made it a 3-0 game with a two-run homer one inning later.
Matt Klein picked up the first of his two sacrifice flies in the third inning before Bayram Hot and Nate Earley had back-to-back run-scoring doubles, the latter of which drove in a pair. Klein then added his second sac fly in the fourth to extend the lead to 8-0 after four.
UIC (2-11) scratched its only run across against Forbes in the fifth, but the Cardinals got it right back with Moore driving in Davis in the bottom half.
Rose would later pick up his second RBI of the day with a single in the eighth inning to cap Louisville's fifth double-digit scoring effort of the year.
Hot was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate on Friday to lead the offensive attack. Rose, Klein, Davis and Earley all drove in a pair of runs.
Casen Murphy, Kian Vorster and Ethan Eberle combined for the final three innings on the mound, with Vorster making his collegiate debut.
Louisville and UIC continue their three-game series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
