Cardinals Slug Past Butler for Fifth Straight Win
February 26, 2025 | Baseball
Louisville picked up a 15-11 victory on Wednesday.
Louisville (6-1) has now won five straight games and each of its first four at home.
The Cardinals pounded out 16 hits, including four home runs, scoring in each of the first six innings to secure the victory.
Zion Rose and Matt Klein started the scoring with RBI groundouts in the bottom of the first to give the Cards an early lead. After Butler responded with two runs of its own in the second, Bayram Hot singled home Tagger Tyson to put the Cardinals back in front.
Butler (3-4) answered back with four runs in the third to take the lead and then tacked on two more in the fourth. However, the Cards broke out the long ball in the middle innings to grab the lead back for good.
Garret Pike launched his first home run in a Louisville uniform in the third, starting a run of four straight innings with a home run for UofL. Rose drilled his second of the season in the fourth, before Tague Davis hit a towering shot in the fifth for his second. Hot was the fourth Cardinal to leave the yard, hammering a two-run blast in the sixth.
Louisville scored two in the third and fourth innings, three more in the fifth to take the lead, and five times in the sixth to stretch out their advantage.
On a night featuring lots of offense, Jack Brown entered in the fourth inning and shut the Bulldogs down. The right-hander didn't allow a run over 2.2 innings to earn his first collegiate victory.
Butler cut Louisville's lead to four at 15-11 in the eighth inning, but Wyatt Danilowicz and Ethan Eberle closed the door.
Danilowicz struck out all three batters he faced and Eberle struck out three of the four he faced in the ninth in his collegiate debut.
Jake Munroe and Lucas Moore each had three hits, two of six Cardinals with multiple hits on the night.
Louisville is back in action this weekend for a three-game series against St. John's. The series gets underway on Friday at 3 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium.
