Louisville defeated Western Michigan 14-3 in seven innings on Saturday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team needed just seven innings to secure a 14-3 victory over Western Michigan on Saturday in the 2025 home opener at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (3-1) improved to 16-3 overall in home openers under Dan McDonnell with Saturday's win.
Patrick Forbes (1-0) grabbed his first victory of the season with five shutout innings on the mound. The right-hander allowed just two singles on the afternoon, striking out nine Broncos.
The Louisville offense had its first five batters reach base in the bottom of the first inning, part of a four-run frame, and never looked back.
Tague Davis led the way offensively with a 4-for-4 showing, hitting his first collegiate home run and driving in five.
Louisville pushed four runs across in the bottom of the first, capped by Davis' first collegiate hit that drove in Matt Klein.
Sacrifice flies from Zion Rose and Garret Pike extended the lead to 6-0 before Davis launched a 3-2 pitch into the trees in right field for a three-run shot in the fourth. Later in the frame, Lucas Moore singled home two and Rose doubled in another as part of a seven-run inning.
Davis added another run-scoring knock in the fifth and George Baker finished off the scoring with a double into the right field corner in the sixth.
The Cardinals pounded out 18 hits on Saturday, their third double-digit hit effort in the first four contests.
Louisville and Western Michigan continue the three-game series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
