Chicoine Joins 1,000 Kill Club
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â Outside hitter Chloe Chicoine knocked down her 1,000th career kill as the No. 5-ranked University of Louisville volleyball swept Virginia Tech inside L&N Federal Credit Union Arena on Friday night. The Cards won 25-11, 25-12, 25-17 to stay undefeated in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

UofL (13-2, 5-0 ACC) hit a season-high .430 and matched its season high aces with 10. Chicoine tabbed 11 kills and seven digs on the night and opposite hitter Kalyssa Blackshear added 10 kills and five blocks to lead the offense. Middle blocker Hannah Sherman stuffed five blocks, and middle blocker Cara Cresse hit 1.000 with five kills on five attacks to go with three blocks. Setter Nayelis Cabello served three of Louisville's aces, libero Kamden Schrand added three, setter/libero Hannah Kenny served three and outside hitter Ava Utterback logged one.

UofL held Virginia Tech (9-7, 1-4 ACC) to a .172 clip with 30 kills, 30 digs and three blocks. Outside hitter Ainsley Ranstead led the team with nine kills and added three digs and one block. Middle blocker Brianna Holladay led the defense with three blocks.Â

Set 1: Virginia Tech 11, Louisville 25
Louisville started off on an 8-1 scoring run that featured two blocks from the duo of Sherman and Blackshear, two kills from Blackshear and two aces from Cabello. The Cards continued to extend their lead, going ahead 15-5 on three straight kills from Chicoine and forcing Virginia Tech to use its second timeout. Out of the break, UofL outscored VT 10-5 as Sherman, Cresse, Petersen, Cabello and Chicoine each recorded kills, Sherman and Blackshear stuffed another block and Kamden Schrand served an ace. A kill from Chicoine sealed the set win 25-11.Â

Set 2: Virginia Tech 12, Louisville 25
Louisville began the second set by going ahead 9-2 and forcing the Hokies to use their first timeout. The teams traded points before the Cards got out to a 19-7 lead and on a 4-0 scoring run off of kills from Petersen and another ace from Schrand. Sherman put UofL at set point with a kill, and Blackshear ended the set 25-12 with her seventh kill of the night.

Set 3: Virginia Tech 17, Louisville 25
Chicoine grabbed her 1,000th career kill on the fourth point of the set as Louisville went on a 5-0 opening run that forced Virginia Tech to use up its first timeout. Down 17-9, VT burned its second timeout. During the run, Utterback served UofL's 10th ace of the match while adding three kills and a block. Chicoine gave Louisville match point with a kill, and a service error from the Hokies clinched the set win, 25-17.Â
