Chicoine and Petersen Selected for US National Collegiate Team Training

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Louisville outside hitters Chloe Chicoine and Payton Petersen have been invited by USA Volleyball to participate in the 2026 Women's National Team Collegiate Training, February 19-22, at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

The three-day training will bring together 62 athletes representing 20 USA Volleyball regions, with participants from 29 NCAA Division I universities. The Women's National Team Collegiate Training (WNTCT) serves as a high-level development opportunity, allowing athletes to train and compete in a national team environment while being assessed by Women's National Team staff.

Chloe Chicoine was named AVCA All-South Region and to the Lincoln All-Regional Team. In addition, she was voted 2025 All-ACC First Team and set an overall career-high with 28 kills against Marquette in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In the 2025 NCAA Regional Semifinal, she had 26 kills, hit .300 with eight digs and three blocks in an epic five-set match with Texas A&M. She won Gold on U23 US National Team for NORCECA at Pan American Cup and was voted to ACC All-Preseason Team as well as the All-Cardinal Classic team. She was named to the AVCA Division I Player of the Year Watchlist.

Payton Petersen was voted 2025 All-ACC Second Team and the 2025 AVCA All-South Region Honorable Mention. She was named to the Creigjton All-Bluejay Invitational Team with 38 kills, 6 blocks and 33 digs at the tourney and was voted All-Cardinal Classic. She had the team-high in kills with 24 vs. No. 14 Miami and the team's highest point total with 24.5 also against UM and a season-high/team-high 55 attacks against No. 2 Texas. She set career-high in blocks with five against Kentucky and had seven matches with 15+ Kills including 20 versus Illinois, 18 vs. No. 8 SMU and 16 vs No. 5 Stanford. She led the team in double-doubles with 13 including ones versus No. 2 Texas, No. 6 Kentucky, No. 4 Stanford (2x), No. 8 SMU, No.14 Miami and No. 3 Texas A&M. She had three aces against Penn State and Rice; Had 15 digs vs. No. 5 Stanford & Auburn and 4 assists vs. Virginia. A six rotation player, she was listed by AvidVolleyball as a Top Ten Receivers in multiple weeks, passing 2.25 on a 3-point scale.Â

Women's National Team head coach Erik Sullivan will lead the training alongside assistant coach Brandon Taliaferro. The staff also includes Women's National Team strength coach Shannon Boone, athletic trainer Kara Kessans, and performance analyst Nate Ngo.
"The WNTCT represents an exciting step forward for USA Volleyball, uniting the top athletes across age groups in one competitive setting," Sullivan said. "We're fired up to host this evaluation at the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs as it allows us to assess talent, culture and potential at the highest level."

In addition to on-court training, athletes will participate in professional volleyball presentations from Athletes Unlimited, Major League Volleyball, and League One Volleyball, providing insight into professional pathways available following their collegiate careers.
