
Three Cardinals Advance to Semifinals at Paris Olympic Games

Loktev, Petrashov and Barna move on after prelims
PARIS -- The University of Louisville had another busy morning swimming at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with three swimmers advancing to the semifinals after preliminaries at the Paris La Défense Arena.

First in the water for the Cardinals was Nick Albiero in the 200M butterfly. UofL's two-time NCAA Champion and 28-time All-American, swam for Brazil, boarded a 1:56.49. Albiero is the reigning Brazilian champion in this event. Kristof Milak of Hungary posted a 1:53.92 will be the top qualifier in the semifinals.

Serbian Andrej Barna, a 17-time All-American for the Cards, Â finished fourth in his heat of the 100M freestyle with a time 48.34. He will advance to the semifinals and will be seeded 10th. Â

Israeli Denis Petrashov, the current ACC silver medalist in both the 100 and 200 breast stroke, Â earned a second swim in the 200M breaststroke with a time of 2:10.99 and is seeded 16th in the semifinals. The top qualifier was Korea's Sung Jae Cho, who went 2:09.45.

Denis Loktev helped the Israeli 4x200 relay team with a leadoff leg of 1:47.32 as Team Israel went 7:08.43 to qualify fifth and return this evening.

Brazilian Murilo Sartori, who was part of the Cardinals' 800 free relay that won gold at the ACCs, was the leadoff on the 4x200M Relay and posted a split of 1:48.56 as Brazil posted a 7:10.26.
