Louisville won 5-3 in Saturday’s series finale.
BRIGHTON, Mass. – The University of Louisville baseball team wrapped up the weekend with a 5-3 victory at Boston College on Saturday.
Louisville (29-18, 13-11 ACC) completed the three-game sweep with the win, its second sweep of the conference season.
Making his first ACC start of the season, Colton Hartman was excellent on the mound Saturday.
The freshman issued a walk to start the game in the first but proceeded to retire the next 16 batters he faced, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
Hartman retired the first batter of the sixth inning before issuing a one-out walk. He then got the next batter to fly out for the second out, but he followed with his second walk of the inning to put two on.
Boston College (21-25, 8-19) then tallied its first hit of the game, rolling a single into left field to break the scoreless contest and score the game's first run. Hartman exited with just the one run allowed and five strikeouts in a career-high 5.2 innings.
Kayden Campbell entered with two in scoring position and retired the next hitter to limit the damage to just one run.
The Cardinals answered right back though. Eddie King Jr. drew a one-out walk to start Louisville's rally. Lucas Moore, pinch-running for King, then stole second base and scored on Ryan McCoy's single into right field to tie the game at one. McCoy swiped second base as well and Matt Klein lined a single to centerfield to plate McCoy and give Louisville its first lead of the day.
Campbell mowed down the Eagles in the bottom half of the seventh and the Louisville offense went immediately back to work.
Zion Rose singled and Isaac Humphrey was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Moore then delivered a huge two-out hit, singling to centerfield to make it a two-run game. McCoy followed with a double into the left-centerfield gap that scored a pair and stretched Louisville's lead to four.
Campbell again took care of the Eagles in the eighth before handing the ball off in the ninth. BC scored two times in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate, but Patrick Forbes induced a groundball to complete the win.
Campbell (3-1) earned the victory with 2.1 shutout innings, matching his career high with four strikeouts.
McCoy led the offensive attack, going 2-for-4 and driving home three of the five runs. Klein and Rose each added two hits.
Louisville continues its seven-game road swing on Tuesday night with the Battle of the Barrel against Vanderbilt. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET in Nashville.
