Cardinals Blank Eagles for Third Straight Win
May 03, 2024 | Baseball
Louisville defeated Boston College 3-0 on Friday.
BRIGHTON, Mass. – The University of Louisville baseball team pitched its way to a 3-0 victory at Boston College on Friday in game two of the weekend series.
Louisville (28-18, 12-11 ACC) recorded its first shutout of the season as it won its second straight game over the Eagles.
Evan Webster (4-1) was outstanding on Friday, blanking the Eagles over a career-long seven innings. The southpaw scattered four hits and struck out six to help the Cardinals to their first shutout since April 28, 2023, against Miami.
Tucker Biven handled the final six outs for his fifth save of the season.
Offensively, the Cards plated single runs in the second, sixth and eighth innings, which proved to be enough.
Ryan McCoy singled home Isaac Humphrey for the game's first run in the second inning. Humphrey then followed a leadoff triple from Luke Napleton in the sixth with a double of his own to score the second run.
Humphrey then tacked on the third run of the game all by himself, launching his eighth home run of the season with one out in the eighth inning.
That was more than enough for Webster, who allowed multiple baserunners in just one of his seven innings of work.
Humphrey was the star of the day at the plate, going 3-for-4 and playing a part in all three runs that scored. Napleton and JT Benson added two hits of their own.
Louisville will finish off its weekend series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for noon ET.
