Louisville suffered a walk-off loss on Tuesday in Bowling Green.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team suffered a 3-2 walk-off loss in 10 innings on Tuesday afternoon at Western Kentucky.
Louisville (20-12) saw its 10-game winning streak over Western Kentucky snapped with the loss.
Western Kentucky (22-11) grabbed the early lead on Tuesday, stringing together four consecutive hits in the first inning two push two runs across.
After being held off the scoreboard through the first four innings, Logan Beard changed that with one swing in the fifth. The senior sent a towering fly into the WKU bullpen behind the left field wall for his team-leading eighth home run of the year. Beard, who has been on a tear of late, now has five home runs in his last seven games.
Colton Hartman gave up the two runs in the opening inning, but followed with two scoreless. Dan Snyder retired six of the seven batters he faced in two shutout innings, while Parker Detmers took care of 1.2 innings without giving up a run as well.
Isaac Humphrey had a deep drive caught at the right-centerfield wall in the fifth, but the ballpark couldn't hold his swing leading off the eighth as he sent one over the wall in right to tie the game at two. It was the fifth of the year for the senior, matching his career high.
Jared Lessman was the next arm of the bullpen for the Cardinals, taking care of two innings but ran into trouble after hitting two batters in the ninth. Will Koger entered with two down and two on and proceeded to hit the first batter he faced to load the bases. The right-hander battled back though and got a strikeout to send the game to extra innings.
In the 10th, WKU put a man on with a one-out bunt single and had him on second with two down. A high chopper up the middle was knocked down by a sliding Gavin Kilen, but the throw to the plate was just off the mark and the runner slid around the tag for the winning run.
Louisville's offense had plenty of chances on the night with 11 hits, however the Cards left 12 men on base after going just 2-for-13 with runners on base.
Kilen was 3-for-5 on the day, while Humphrey, Zion Rose and Michael Lippe added two hits each.
Louisville returns to conference play this weekend with three games against No. 9 Virginia at Jim Patterson Stadium. The series begins on Friday night at 6 p.m. ET.
