Louisville had its three-game conference win streak snapped on Friday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team dropped the opening game of its weekend series against No. 9 Virginia by a 21-3 total on Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Louisville (20-13, 6-7 ACC) suffered its second straight loss and snapped a three-game winning streak in conference play.

Virginia (27-7, 10-6) jumped out in front early and never looked back on Friday. The Cavaliers plated two in the first on a two-out homer and did not trail.

In the bottom of the first, Dylan Hoy ambushed the first pitch of the game from the UVA starter and launched it over the wall in right-centerfield for his second homer of the season.

However, the Cavaliers responded with three more runs in the second and one in the third to lead 6-1 after three. Virginia then tacked on two more in the sixth and three more in the seventh before posting a 10-spot in the ninth.

Luke Napleton accounted for the other two Louisville runs on the night, hitting a two-run homer for his seventh long ball of the season in the sixth.

Louisville and Virginia continue the three-game series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
