Cardinals Lose Finale to No. 9 Virginia

Louisville took a 16-7 loss on Sunday.
Louisville (21-14, 7-8) marked the halfway point of the conference season on Sunday, completing its fifth weekend of ACC play.
After a scoreless first inning from both sides, Virginia (28-8, 11-7) put four on the scoreboard in the second via a pair of home runs. The Cavaliers then added another solo home run in the third.
The Cardinals stranded two runners on in each of the first two innings, but cashed in a run-scoring opportunity in the third. With two more on, Eddie King Jr. lifted a home run over the right field wall to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Virginia's offense kept putting runs up though, tacking on one more in the fourth and fifth innings before getting four more in the sixth.
Ryan McCoy continued his power surge in the sixth inning with an opposite field homer, his third longball in the last two days. McCoy took over the team lead with his ninth of the season.
The Cavaliers answered with a run of their own in the seventh and four in the ninth.
Matt Klein came off the bench in the bottom of the ninth and hit a three-run home run, his third of the year.
McCoy and Dylan Hoy each went 3-for-5 to collect six of the Cardinals' 13 hits on the day.
Louisville will host Kentucky in the Battle of the Bluegrass on Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
