Cards Send Two to the Finals after Day 3 Prelims at NCAA Championships

Petrashov and Sartori advance to the A-final tonight along with the 400 Medley Relay team
INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of Louisville set a school record and will send two into the individual finals as well as the 400 medley relay tonight at the 2024 NCAA Men's Swimming Championships at the Indiana Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
In the 400 IM, Tommy Bried turned in a time of 3:42.72 to finish sixth in his heat and 19th overall for the Cardinals. Teammate Jackson Millard posted a 3:43.19 to finish fifth in his heat and 23rd overall. The top seed tonight will be French phenom Leon Marchand, who checked in a 3:35.75.
In the 100 butterfly, Louisville's Dalton Lowe went 45.35 to finish third in his heat and 26th overall. Florida's Josh Liendo is atop the leaderboard for tonight after boarding a 43.30 as the No. 1 seed.
In the 200 freestyle, Murilo Sartori set a school record with a 1:31.42 to finish fourth in his heat and seeded eighth. Also swimming the 200 free was Guy Brooks, who posted a 1:32.24 for 17th, just missing a second swim and Denis Loktev, who put up a 1:32.82 for a personal best and a 27th finish overall. The top seed tonight will be Luke Hobson of Texas, who went 1:29.75.
In the 100 breast, Denis Petrashov advanced to the A-final with a time of 51.25 to be the seventh seed coming into tonight's finals. Cal's Liam Bell put up a 50.52 to be the top seed tonight.
In the 100 backstroke, Dalton Lowe turned in a time of 46.08 to touch third in his heat and finish 32nd overall. Destin Lasco of California will be in lane four in tonight's finals after going 44.00.
The University of Louisville has nine swimmers and three relay alternates in the field. Tommy Bried, Guy Brooks, Denis Loktev, Dalton Lowe, Jackson Millard, Denis Petrashov, Gustavo Saldo, Murilo Sartori and Ilia Sibirtsev have qualified in individual events. Matias Santiso, Charlie Crush and Vladimir Dubinin will serve as relay alternates. The Cardinals also qualified all five relay events.
