Cardinals Defeat Cincinnati 11-5, Win Second Straight
March 26, 2024 | Baseball
Louisville registered its second straight victory on Tuesday.
Louisville (16-9) recorded its second straight victory and reached double figures in runs for the 12th time this season.
The two teams went back and forth through the first three innings on Tuesday.
Cincinnati (15-11) plated a two-out run in the first before getting a two-run home run in the second and third innings.
Meanwhile, Louisville got a RBI groundout from JT Benson to tie the game at one in the first and Isaac Humphrey put the Cardinals in front with a two-run double later in the inning.
Dylan Hoy went the opposite way for his first home run of the season in the second inning and Logan Beard tied the game at five apiece with a solo shot in the third.
Carson Liggett put the first scoreless inning of the game on the board in the fourth before lightning in the area forced a 53-minute delay in the action.
The Louisville offense picked up right where it left off following the stoppage, pushing three runs across in the fourth and fifth frames.
Zion Rose doubled home the go-ahead run in the fourth and came around the score on Benson's sacrifice fly. Luke Napleton then extended the lead with a run-scoring single into right-center.
Ryan McCoy opened the fifth with a bang, launching his sixth home run of the season to straightaway centerfield. Benson added his second sacrifice fly of the night and Matt Klein tallied a RBI knock to push the game to its final margin.
After allowing five runs in the first three innings, the Louisville pitching staff slammed the door shut. Liggett (2-1) grabbed the win with 1.2 innings of shutout relief. Jared Lessman and Parker Detmers worked two scoreless innings each before Justin West retired all three batters he faced in the ninth.
Rose and Klein each had three hits as part of the 15-hit attack. Hoy and Napleton chipped in two hits of their own.
Louisville now heads back out on the road for the second straight weekend. The Cardinals will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on No. 12 Florida State. The series begins on Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
