Louisville lost 6-3 on Sunday to Northwestern.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team suffered a 6-3 loss in the series finale against Northwestern on Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (10-5) saw its winning streak end at 10, losing its first game since February 23.
Northwestern (6-7) scored early on Sunday and stayed in front the whole way. The Wildcats plated two in the first, two more in the second and added one more in the fourth to hold a 5-0 advantage.
It stayed a 5-0 contest until Isaac Humphrey's solo home run with one out in the sixth, his third of the season. However, Northwestern got the run right back in the top of the seventh.
The Cardinals made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh. Louisville loaded the bases with one out and Alex Alicea worked a walk to cut the margin to four. Zion Rose would beat a tag at the plate on a wild pitch later in the inning to make it 6-3, but the Cards would strand the bases loaded.
Louisville went in order in the eighth, but got the tying run to the plate again in the ninth. Alicea beat out an infield single and Lucas Moore was hit by a pitch to bring the tying run up with two away. However, a strikeout ended the contest.
Six different Louisville pitchers took the mound in the loss. Riley Phillips gave up just an unearned run in 2.2 innings. Kaleb Corbett and Jared Lessman also turned in scoreless outings.
Louisville returns to action for a two-game midweek series against Lipscomb beginning on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET. The second game of the midweek will be Louisville Baseball's annual Elementary School Day at 11 a.m. ET.
