LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team scored seven unanswered goals over a span of 18 minutes in the second half to lead the Cardinals to a 14-9 win over Marquette Friday afternoon.
Louisville picked up its first win of the season as three different players recorded hat tricks on the afternoon.
Nicole Perroni led the way by tying her season high with four goals to improve her season total to nine through the first three contests. She also extended her scoring streak to 39-straight games with a goal.Â
Kokoro Nakazawa equaled her season best of three goals and her sister Negai Nakazawa also added three tallies to improve the team to 1-2 on the year.
Sara Addeche added a season-best and tied her career-best with18 saves as she limited Marquette to just four goals in the second half.
"I thought we battled all the way through," head coach Scott Teeter said following the game. "I thought our defense and Sara played well for the entire game. Our offense found a way. We had some good looks and we just tried to stay positive. We knew if we kept getting those looks we could score."
After the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie after one period, the Golden Eagles took a 5-4 lead into the intermission behind two goals from Perroni.
The Golden Eagles took a 7-5 lead in the third quarter before the Cardinals tallied the next seven markers to take over the game.
Kokoro tied the game at 7-7 with 2:13 left in the third quarter, and Perroni would score the next two goals to put the Cards ahead to stay. Kylea Dobson added two scores for the Cardinals.
"We had good looks in the first half, but we couldn't capitalize," said Coach Scott Teeter. "Sara played great with 18 saves, which enabled us to gain confidence."
The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, Feb. 18 when they travel to face Lindenwood at 1 p.m. ET.Â
