Cardinals Fall to No. 3 North Carolina, 5-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Louisville women's soccer team went up against one of the best teams in the country and ultimately fell 5-0 to No. 3 North Carolina Thursday night at Dorrance Field. North Carolina scored in the opening 10 minutes and added another tally before the half. The Tar Heels added some more goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.
North Carolina struck first early on as Kate Faasse got behind Louisville's defense to score the opening goal. Six minutes in and the Tar Heels held a 1-0 lead.
After allowing the opening goal, the Cardinals settled in on defense and kept the Tar Heels from getting a chance on goal. Although the Tar Heels added another goal right before the half in the 38th minute. Aven Alvarez hopped on a rebound from a free kick and sent it to the back of the net to give the Tar Heels a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Kailey Kimball made a couple saves to keep the Cardinals within striking range. In the 63rd minute, Faasse scored her second goal of the night and increased the North Carolina lead to 3-0. The Tar Heels added two more goals over the final 25 minutes to seal the victory.
The Cardinals will remain on the road and another top team is on deck. Louisville stays in the triangle to take on No. 2 Duke on Sunday before returning to campus. The Cardinals and Blue Devils will square off in Durham at 1 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
