Brooke Dardano scored her second goal of the season
DURHAM, N.C. — The Louisville women's soccer team had another matchup against a top opponent and fell on the road to No. 2 Duke, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in Durham. Brooke Dardano tallied her second goal of the season on Sunday, with both of them coming on the road this season.
Neither team was able to record a shot on goal through the first 25 minutes until the Blue Devils broke through in the 26th minute. Duke got on the scoreboard after converting on a loose ball after a corner kick. Katie Groff scored from a tough angle to put Duke ahead 1-0.
The Blue Devils added another goal moments later in the 28th minute. The Blue Devils' goal came off a turnover and increased their lead to 2-0.
Duke continued to push the pace offensively in the first half but Erynn Floyd made some key saves to keep the Cardinals within striking distance. She had three saves in the first half and the Cards trailed by two.
In the second half, Duke added another goal coming off a free kick deep in the Cardinals defensive third.
The Cardinals continued to fight back and got on the scoresheet in the 69th minute. Mackenzie Geigle played a ball off to Brooke Dardano as she made a run towards the box. She had a step over and fired a left-footed shot off as she just entered the box. Her shot beat the keeper and snuck inside the far post for her second goal of the year.
Floyd finished the match with a season-high five saves against the second-ranked Blue Devils. It was her first start since Sept. 5 against UT Martin as she has been out with injuries over the past month.
The Cardinals return home to begin their final homestand of the season. Louisville has four-straight home games over the next three weeks and it begins with No. 17 Notre Dame this coming Saturday. The Cardinals host the Irish at 5 p.m. from Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium on Saturday and the match will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
