Cardinals Earn Hard-Fought Draw Against No. 13 Notre Dame, 0-0
October 12, 2024 | Women's Soccer
Erynn Floyd tallied a career-high 10 saves in the draw
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's soccer team went toe to toe with another top team in the country and came away with a 0-0 draw over No. 13 Notre Dame Saturday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals improved to 5-1-2 at Lynn Stadium this season as this game begins a four-game homestand.
It was the Cardinals fifth clean sheet this season and it was the first time this season Notre Dame has been shutout in a game. They came into the match with 30 goals on the year and averaged 2.73 goals per game. It was the first time Notre Dame has been shutout since September 7, 2023, a span of 25 matches over the past two seasons.
Goalkeeper Erynn Floyd was great all night for the Cardinals, constantly making key saves to keep the match tied. She finished the match with a career high 10 saves and she had five saves in each half. It was the first time a Louisville player has had 10 or more saves in a match since Gabby Kouzelos tallied 10 against Virginia back in 2020.
Floyd's first big save of the night came in the 34th minute on a shot from outside the box. It came bending in towards Floyd and she had to punch the ball over the top bar to make the save. Moments later, the Irish got a free header in the box but Floyd was in position to scoop up the shot and make the save.
Then as the seconds were winding down in the first half, the Irish were able to get a clean shot off in the box but Floyd dove to her right and made the save. She finished the first half with five saves, matching her total from the previous game against No. 2 Duke.
In the second half, Floyd made a diving save in the 73rd minute on a bending shot from outside the box. Another bending shot from outside the box came on frame in the 83rd minute but Floyd stood tall once again. Her final save of the night came in the 86th minute as a rocket from outside the box was sent over the bar and out of play.
The Cardinal defense stood tall and closed out the draw over the final four minutes. It was their fifth clean sheet of the season and all five have come at home. It is the most clean sheets in a season since 2022, when they tallied six on the year.
Up next for the Cards is another ranked opponent and one of the ACC newcomers this season. Louisville will welcome No. 7 Stanford to Lynn Stadium for a Thursday night matchup. The Cardinal and Cardinals will square off at 7 p.m. ET and the match will be aired nationally on ACC Network.
