Cardinals Continue Homestand with No. 6 Stanford
October 16, 2024 | Women's Soccer
This is the fourth-straight ranked opponent the Cards will face
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's soccer team is in the midst of a four-game homestand and up next is another ranked opponent. The Cardinals welcome ACC newcomer and sixth-ranked Stanford to Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium Thursday night. The Cardinal and Cardinals will square off at 7 p.m. ET and the match will be aired nationally on the ACC Network.
Thursday's match is the Cardinals' Cancer Awareness match and they will be wearing their pink kits for the occasion.
Louisville is coming off a 0-0 draw against No. 13 Notre Dame this past Saturday at the beginning of the homestand. Goalkeeper Erynn Floyd set a career high with 10 saves and was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts. It was her fourth clean sheet of the season and it was the most saves by a Louisville player in a match since 2020.
The Cardinals were the first team to shut out Notre Dame this season. Coming into the match, Notre Dame had averaged 2.73 goals per game. It was the first time Notre Dame has been shut out since September 7, 2023, a span of 25-straight matches with a goal.
The Irish were the third-straight ranked opponent the Cardinals have faced dating back to their match against No. 3 North Carolina on Oct. 3. Two more ranked opponents are on deck with the sixth-ranked Cardinal on Thursday and then Louisville will host No. 25 Cal on Sunday from Lynn Stadium.
Louisville has had plenty of success at home this season as they are 5-1-2 at Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals defense has been on point at home as all five clean sheets this season have come in home games. The Cardinals have only allowed three goals in their eight home matches this season and no more than one in all eight matches. Louisville has not allowed a goal at home since their Sept. 8 match against Dayton.
Following Thursday's match, the Cardinals will host another ACC newcomer in No. 25 Cal on Sunday, October 20. The Golden Bears and Cardinals will square off at 12 p.m. ET and the match will be aired nationally on the ACC Network.
