Cards Return Home to Host Wyoming
September 08, 2023 | Women's Soccer
This will be the first meeting between the two schools in program history
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After a midweek road matchup on Thursday, the Louisville women's soccer team is back at home and set to open another three-game homestand. The Cardinals welcome Wyoming to Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium for matchup on Sunday, September 10. The Cardinals and Cowgirls will square off at 5:30 p.m. ET and the game will be aired nationally on ACC Network.
The Cardinals have had a lot of their production come from their underclassmen group. three of the five goals scored this season have come from that group including two from freshman Molly Cochran and one from sophomore Addie Chester. Cochran is the first Louisville freshman to score two goals in a game since the 2021 season. Sophomore Lizzie Sexton and Karsyn Cherry have started all seven games on the back line and lead the Cardinal defenders in minutes played and have tallied three clean sheets this season. Sophomore Erynn Floyd has started all seven games in goal and is coming off a career-high nine saves against Indiana.
Louisville's defense has done well in their four home games this season. The Cardinals have allowed just two goals over those four home games and all three clean sheets have come at home this season. In the opener against Indiana State, the Cardinals did not allow a single shot for the first time since the 2019 season. In their most recent home game against Central Michigan, the Cardinals came away with a 3-0 win and they allowed just one shot on goal.
This will be the first all-time meeting between Louisville and Wyoming. This will also be the first time the Cardinals have faced a team that is currently in the Mountain West Conference. Sunday's matchup will be the final of Louisville's non-conference slate before they open conference play next Saturday, September 16 against Virginia at home.
