Cards End in 2-2 Draw with Wyoming
September 10, 2023 | Women's Soccer
Addie Chester scored her second goal of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team were minutes away from collecting a home win before a late equalizer saw their match with Wyoming finish in a 2-2 draw Sunday evening at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Addie Chester scored her second goal in the 77th minute to put the Cards in front but the Cowgirls scored the equalizer off a corner in the 88th minute.
Wyoming started the game out on the front foot and had a couple of strong chances in their offensive third over the first 10 minutes of the game.
The Cardinals defense settled in and defense turned to offense as the Cardinals earned a corner in the 16th minute. Chester sent a high ball that bounced right inside the six-yard box and a Wyoming defender was first to it. The ball deflected off the defender and ended up in the back of the net and it gave the Cards a 1-0 lead.
That lead held until the 34th minute as the Cowgirls got their first equalizer of the match. It was a loose ball situation near the top of the box for the Cards and Erynn Floyd came out to try and push it away from danger. She beat the Cowgirls defender to the ball but the rebound got out to Jamie Tatum and she was able to put it in the back of the net.
After halftime and the score still level late into the second half, Hayley Howard opened the field up for Addie Chester with a deep through ball into the attacking third. Chester was able to outrun her defender and ended up 1-v-1 with the keeper. She forced the keeper to come out off her line and she placed a low, right-footed shot inside the right post for the goal and gave the Cards the lead.
Wyoming pushed forward and earned a few corner kicks in the final minutes. In the 88th minute, Tatum sent the corner into the top of the six-yard box where Jazi Barela was waiting. She headed the ball into the ground and Floyd was able to get a hand on it but it deflected off the post and into the net for the equalizer.
The Cardinals will not have a midweek matchup as they get set for ACC play to start next weekend. Louisville will be at home as they welcome the Virginia Cavaliers to Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium on Saturday, September 16. The Cards and Cavaliers will square off at 7 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
