Erynn Floyd set a career high with nine saves
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team dropped its road contest with Indiana, 2-0, Thursday night at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Indiana scored in the ninth minute in the first half and in the opening minutes of the second half.
The Cardinals struggled to gain much momentum offensively and were outshot 20-5. Erynn Floyd tallied nine saves against the Hoosiers to set a career-high mark.
The Hoosiers opened the game on the front foot and had two good chances in the opening three minutes of the game. Floyd was on the spot as she stopped both shots from Paige Webber, the Hoosiers leading goal scorer, to keep the game level at 0-0. The second chance was a 1-v-1 opportunity against Floyd but she came up with the save.
Indiana broke through in the 9th minute off a corner kick. The original shot by the Hoosiers was blocked but Piper Coffield got the rebound and was able to find the back of the net for the opening goal of the game.
After the Hoosiers goal, neither team was able to muster much offensive pressure and Indiana took a 1-0 lead into the half. The Hoosiers had a 10-0 advantage on shots and Floyd made four saves in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, the Hoosiers doubled their lead in the 47th minute. Elle Britt took a shot from distance that deflected off the far post and into the back of the net for the goal to put the Hoosiers up 2-0.
The Hoosiers hunkered down defensively after their second goal and the Cards were unable to mount a comeback.
The Cards will head back to campus and will open another three-game homestand this weekend. Louisville welcomes Wyoming to Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium on Sunday, September 10. The matchup from the Cardinals and Cowgirls will begin at 5:30 p.m. ET and will be aired nationally on the ACC Network.
