Erynn Floyd tallied eight saves, her second-highest total of the season
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team battled one of the toughest teams in the country on the road and ultimately dropped Saturday night's match, 3-0, to No. 10 Notre Dame at Alumni Stadium. The Irish scored in the opening minutes and while the Cardinals made some key saves to stay in the match, Notre Dame scored twice in the second half to put the game out of reach.
The Irish got off on the front foot in the match and scored the opening goal in the third minute of the match. Meg Mrowicki got a ball into the box from Kiki Van Zanten and she slotted it into the net to give the Irish an early 1-0 lead.
The Irish looked to double their lead in the 38th minute as Charlie Codd got behind the Louisville defense but Erynn Floyd came off her line and made the initial save. Erin Hohnstein got the rebound for the Irish and she fired off a shot but Floyd was able to recover and made her second-straight save.
Codd had another chance for the Irish in the 43rd minute but Floyd once again came off her line and was able to make the save. Floyd had five saves in the first half as the Cardinals trailed by one over the first 45 minutes of action.
In the second half, the Irish scored their second goal of the match in the 62nd minute. The Irish first shot deflected off the post but back into the middle of the box. Van Zanten was first to the ball and she scored to put the Irish up 2-0.
The Irish added another goal in the 78th minute off of a penalty kick goal from Van Zanten and it put the match out of reach.
