Molly Cochran and Addie Chester both scored their first career goals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team were clicking on all cylinders in its 3-0 win over Central Michigan on Sunday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The youngsters were the ones on the scoresheet for the Cardinals as Molly Cochran scored twice and Addie Chester added a goal to secure the win. It was the first career goals for both Cochran and Chester.
Ravin Alexander tallied assists on both Cochran goals while Chester had an assist on the first goal of the match.
The Cardinals almost got on the scoreboard in the opening minutes as Betsy Huckaby had a great look at goal. Her shot was saved by the Chippewas keeper and Ravin Alexander was at the right spot to pick up the rebound and put it into the back of the net. The celebration was short lived as the assistant referee had her arm up and Alexander was offside to nullify the goal.
Louisville continued to push forward offensively and it paid off in the 14th minute. Addie Chester got the play started from the left side as she cut towards the box and sent a low cross to the near post. The ball got through to Alexander who got it back to Molly Cochran and she slotted the ball past the Chippewas defenders for the goal. It was her first goal of the season and the Cards had a 1-0 lead.
Louisville took the 1-0 lead into the half and held a 10-2 shot advantage over the Chippewas in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, the Cardinals continued to attack in the offensive third and it led to more goals.
Cochran was at it again in the 52nd minute as she played a ball into the box for Alexander. Alexander's shot was saved but it came right back out to Cochran, who got it by a Central Michigan on the goaline for her second goal of the night.
Just a few minutes later, Chester got in on the scoring with a great run in from the left side. She received the ball near midfield and cut inside and got around a couple of defenders before lacing a right-footed shot that curled around the keeper and inside the far post for her first career goal.
The Cardinal defense stood tall on the evening with just five shots allowed and only one on target for their third clean sheet of the season. Erynn Floyd has been in net for all three this season and it was her eighth clean sheet of her career.
The Cardinals are back on the road for their next midweek matchup coming up on Thursday September 7. The Cardinals will be making the trek up to Bloomington to take on the Hoosiers Thursday night at 7 p.m. ET.
