Louisville finishes out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team gave up seven runs over the final three innings and lost 7-4 to Florida State on Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (31-23, 10-19 ACC) closes out the regular season on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. The Cardinals need a victory over Florida State coupled with a Pitt loss at NC State to qualify for next week's ACC Championship.
Evan Webster turned in a great start for the Cardinals, facing just one batter over the minimum in three scoreless innings.
The offense then powered the Cardinals in front with two big swings in the bottom of the third. Logan Beard led off the frame with his seventh home run of the season and then JT Benson cashed in with a pair of runners on for his sixth of the year to make it 4-0.
Greg Farone followed Webster on the mound and was equally impressive. The southpaw struck out six in his first three innings before exiting with a runner on in the seventh.
Florida State (22-31, 8-21) then chipped away at Louisville's lead. The Seminoles picked up a two-out, two-run single in the seventh and then tied the game with a two-run home run in the eighth.
FSU then tallied three more runs in the ninth inning to ultimately give it the win.
Louisville put the first two batters on in the bottom half of the ninth to get the tying run to the plate, but was unable to get anyone home.
