Cardinals Finish Sweep of No. 7 Boston College

Louisville defeated Boston College 4-2 on Saturday in the series finale.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The ninth-ranked University of Louisville baseball team finished off a three-game sweep of No. 7 Boston College with a 4-2 win on Saturday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (24-7, 7-5 ACC) earned its fifth three-game sweep of a top-10 team during Dan McDonnell's tenure and first since taking all three against then-No. 1 Notre Dame last spring.
The Cardinals used a strong performance from Carson Liggett on the mound and big fourth inning at the plate to secure the victory.
Liggett (7-0) continued his dominant run in series finales, tossing seven shutout innings on Saturday on a career-high 102 pitches. The sophomore surrendered five hits and struck out six in the win. Liggett becomes the first Louisville pitcher to win his first seven decisions in a season since Kade McClure posted a 12-0 mark in 2016.
Louisville would provide all the offense Liggett needed in the fourth inning.
Ryan McCoy led off the frame with a towering home run over the right-centerfield wall for his seventh long ball of the season. Patrick Forbes then walked and stole second before eventually scoring on a passed ball. Logan Beard and Christian Knapczyk added run-scoring singles later in the inning to cap the four-run inning.
Kayden Campbell followed Liggett with a scoreless eighth before the Cardinals ran into some trouble in the ninth.
Boston College (21-9, 8-7) drew consecutive walks to lead off the final inning and a one-out single loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate. Louisville traded a run for the second out as Eddie King Jr. made a sliding snag in centerfield on a sacrifice fly, but a double made it a two-run game with the tying runs in scoring position.
A walk loaded the bases once again, but Evan Webster was able to get a flyout to right to finish the ballgame and tally his second save.
Forbes and JT Benson each recorded multi-hit games for the Cardinals, going 2-for-3 at the plate on Saturday.
Louisville will now get ready for the first Battle of the Bluegrass game of the spring on Tuesday night. The Cardinals host Kentucky with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
