Petrashov Earns All-American Honors in Breaststroke at NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS -- Powered by a top three finish by Denis Petrashov, the University of Louisville men's swimming and diving team moved into 11th after three days of competition at the 2023 NCAA Championships in Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
Cal took over first place (315) followed by Arizona State (302), Texas (292), Indiana (259), Florida (251), NC State (246.5), Tennessee (144), Stanford (112.5), Auburn (96), Virginia Tech (96), and Louisville 71.
Denis Petrashov set a school and ACC record in the 100 breast and finished third in the 100 breaststroke to earn first team All-American honors with a time of 50.78, dropping .34 from his preliminary time. Seeded eighth, the junior from Bishteck, Kyrgystan, improved five spots. The race was won by Minnesota's Max McHugh, who touched in 50.00.
The 400 medley relay team of Charlie Crush (47.16), Denis Petrashov (50.17), Dalton Lowe (45.01) and Michael Eastman (41.33) combined for a time of 3:03.67 but were disqualified. Florida won with an NCAA record time of 2:58.32.
The NCAA Championships conclude Saturday with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1,650 freestyle, platform diving, and 400 freestyle relay.
Swimming prelims begin at 11 a.m. EST, followed by diving prelims at 1 p.m., early mile heats at 5:10 p.m., and finals at 7 p.m. Live coverage of the meet will stream on ESPN+, with live results available online and to paid subscribers on the MeetMobile app.
