Bio
RS-Senior: At the NCAA Championships, El-araby was 16th in the 50 free (19.30) and 28th in the 100 free (42.41). He was the fly leg on the 200 Medley Relay team that finished seventh for All-American honors with his split of 20.28 helping the Cards to a 1:22.43 and the fourth fastest time in school history. He earned HM All-American honors with an 11th place in the 200 Free Relay with a leadoff leg of 19.22 as the Cards went 1:15.95 for the second fastest time in school history. He anchored (41.93) the 400 Free Relay which finished 11th in 2:48.93 for HM All-American status. At the ACC Championships, he won the gold medal in the 50 free when he touched in 18.79 to set a new school record. He won bronze in the 200 Medley Relay (1:23.59) with an anchor split of 18.59. He won another bronze medal when the Cards were third in the 200 free relay with his leadoff leg of 19.07 helped Louisville to the 1:15.90 time as the second fastest time in school history. He won bronze as part of the 400 Medley Relay with an anchor of 41.52 as the Cards went 3:03.37. He won his fourth bronze with an anchor split of 41.85 in the 400 Free Relay that went 2:48.94. In the dual meet season, he had four wins against Xavier and four second place swims against Tennessee. He won the 50 free at Notre Dame along with two relays. At the Purdue Invitational, he won the 200 Free Relay, the 400 Medley Relay and the 200 Medley Relay. At Missouri, he won the 50 free, the 100 free and the 200 Medley Relay as well as the 400 Free Relay. Against rival Kentucky, he won the 50 free, was second in the 100 freestyle and helped the Cards win the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay. Against Indiana, he won the 50 free and won the 100 fly against Cincinnati. He was awarded the Wilma Rudolph Award for overcoming great personal and emotional odds.
RS-Junior: El-Araby had another successful season for the Cardinals finishing with a huge ACC Conference Championships. He finished 2nd in the 50 freestyle (18.83), 9th in the 100 freestyle (42.42), and 6th in the 100 butterfly (45.64). To end the dual season, El-Araby had a stellar meet against Cincinnati taking home the gold in the 50 freestyle, the 100 butterfly, the 200 medley relay (freestyle), and the 200 freestyle relay (first leg). Against Indiana, El-Araby had two runner-up finishes in the 200 medley relay (freestyle) and the 400 freestyle relay (first leg).
RS-Sophomore: El-Araby led the Cardinal sprinters during his third season in The Ville, qualifying for the NCAA Championships where he placed 17th in the 100 freestyle (42.48) and 26th in the 50 freestyle (19.50). He was also part of three Cardinal relays at NCAAs, leading off the bronze-medal 400 freestyle relay in 41.94 and anchoring the fourth-place 400 medley relay in 41.72. El-Araby also anchored the 200 freestyle relay in 18.45 en route to giving UofL their first ever relay NCAA title. At the ACC Championships, he earned silver in the 100 freestyle (42.07), bronze in the 50 freestyle (19.15), and placed ninth in the 100 butterfly (45.82). His prelim time of 19.14 in the 50 freestyle set a new UofL program record. He also anchored the winning 200 medley relay in 18.76, led off the gold-medal 200 freestyle relay in 19.15, anchored the victorious 400 medley relay in 42.02, and collected silver as part of the runner-up 400 freestyle relay in 42.03. He also posted six top-4 finishes throughout the abbreviated dual meet season, highlighted by a sweep of the 50/100 freestyle against Kentucky. El-Araby also won the 50 free against both Cincinnati and Notre Dame.
RS-Freshman: El-Araby proved to be an integral member of the Cardinals’ sprint group and qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 50 freestyle before the meet was cancelled. At the ACC Championships, he earned silver in the 50 freestyle (19.31), finished seventh in the 100 freestyle (43.03), and took 13th in the 100 butterfly (46.44). El-Araby also led off the 200 freestyle that finished second in 19.32 and anchored the silver-medal-winning 400 freestyle relay in 42.19. He won the B-final of both the 50 freestyle (19.92) and 100 freestyle (44.24) at the Purdue Invitational before going on to final in the 50-meter freestyle (23.14) at the Toyota U.S. Open. El-Araby also finished second in the 50 freestyle (20.68) and third in the 100 butterfly (49.01) in the dual meet against Northwestern. He was also named to the CSCAA All-American team in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 freestyle relay.
Freshman: Redshirted the 2018-19 season.
Prep: El-Araby hails from Cairo, Egypt, where he competed for Taifikia Club under coach Mohamed El Desouky and was a member of the Egyptian National Team. He captured the bronze medal in the 50 free at the 2018 Junior Olympic Games and was the 2018 Egypt national champion in the 50 fly. El-Araby also won a silver medal in the 50 fly at the 2018 Mediterranean Games. He holds best times of 22.43 in the 50-meter free, 51.42 in the 100-meter free and 23.69 in the 50-meter fly.
